a cat without a name

Our new kitten still doesn't have a name.
He nearly earned one last week when he scratched me in the eye, but it's hardly appropriate to share here.  So far we've just been calling him cat or kitty.  He answers to, well, nothing because he's a cat.  He could give a flip if we're calling him or not.

He's turned out to be pretty amusing, though I keep him at a bit of a distance since the eye-scratching thing.   The kids haul him around while he protests loudly, the dog has regular posturing sessions with him (the cat wins), and he has taken a real liking to leaping out from around the corner to surprise me.  And it does, because he leaps spread-eagle like he's doing a jumping jack, right in front of me.  Weirdo.

Hopefully he'll earn a name soon.  You know, one that I can share.  But if you have suggestions, I'm all ears.

you'll have to ask HIM what his name is, because he'll never come to it 'til it's one he approves of.

since he does jumping jacks, how about calling him jack?

All of our cats know their names. I guess that's unusual?

Good luck finding a name for your crazy, jumping cat. (:

Like I told you earlier ... MOKA ... or maybe ... er, WOOLY ... or SOTA (like in Minnesota ... I know, that's lame) ...

Just add Mr. to the front.
( ex. : Mr. Kitty, not Mr.#@!!*% )

I would go for Batman since he likes to spring spread-eagle like he's doing a jumping jack around corners. It makes me think he's trying to fly... 8*)

But I named my Basset Hound Spot because he had one on his back. And the Boxer/shepherd mix, Thumper because that's how his paws sound when he walks and his tail sounds when it hits stuff...thump, thump, thump! 8*)

He's still so tiny, so no wonder he does crazy things - in your eyes.
This is all normal! All young cats do those silly jumping attacks... :) It will end soon and then you will wonder when your couch potatoe will get up again ;)
But you have to find him a name.
I have cats all my life and they all knew their names. Cat love short quick spoken names, so I think the suggestion Jack is really good!

Lisa, you have already named him.......Weirdo. Although with children around I suppose that wouldn't give the right impression. Keep trying, something will come up at the right time.

I came to suggest Jack but I was beaten to it! He's a cutie, if not a weirdo! :)

Regardless of the names given our cats, I've always called them Kitters. So that's what I'll name my next one, but it will be a while because this large silly dog is not a friend to felines. I think yours looks like a cream puff, and sorry about the eye! Silly dog got my daughter in the eye this summer, luckily no scratch to the cornea, just a day of pain.

Yeah I was thinking Jack too but I guess I'm just unoriginal. Or maybe it's meant to be.

I don't know if you are familiar with the Pink Panther films? In them, Peter Sellers plays the Pink Panther and his oriental manservant is called Cato (think I've spelt it correctly), pronounced kay-toe. Cato used to leap out from various places to surprise PP in the hopes of honing his self-defense skills! One time, he leapt out from the Fridge! Lets' hope your kitty does'nt get in the fridge!

He's cute though....

I usually study the cat's behaviour and after a while the right name, the perfect matching name just comes to me.

I think Jack would be great too, Jumping Jack, Jack be Nimble, Jack Sprat (or brat) etc. Good classic fairy tale name full of mischief.

I was thinking Weirdo too but he looks a lot like my son's favorite cat of all time. He was everyone's favorite and his name was Max - short for Maximillian. He was friendly to everyone and everything. My husband said he would roll over and offer his belly to a semi-truck. It never occured to him that anyone would not love him.

I've always wanted a cream-colored tabby and I've had a name waiting for this hypothetical cat: Malta. I love how its simultaneously exotic, food-ish and inspired by the kitty's coloring. Really...Malta for the win. :)

Jumping Jack Flash; and call him Flash. ;-)

Taking cues from your post, I like the name Flip, or Leap. Or, get your kids to come up with names. I love the names THEY come up with. So imaginative! Good luck...

That's IT - Jack.

The leaping out with the jumping jack stance reminds me of the flying squirrel. The latin for the northan flying squirrel is Glaucomys sabrinus. So you could call him Sabrinus or Sab for short!

Since he jumps around corners to scare you, and since he's lightish in color, you could call him Boo!

I like Cato, as Sandra suggested. That's what my mister wanted to name our cat.

Mandu? (as in Katmandu, Cat Steven's style)

Sir Nigel Finnegan?

Lord Voldemort? (He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named...lol...I crack myself up!)

Walter?

Doug?

Loved Cato from the Pink Panther movies! Great name for a cat, Sandra. Wish I would have thought of that when we had our first cat. He use to come flying out and chase me around the house. I was pregnant with our son at the time... Come to think of it that could explain why my son never can sit still! ;)

In Turkey all white cats are called Pamuk, what means 'cotton'. That it is the name of tha national nobel price winner is also a bonus :)

I know this will sound crazy but how about "Mouse". He has a nice mousy colour.
