Aww, look what popped up on my table yesterday. The first mushrooms of the year.
I do so love making these little guys.
Needle-felted wool complete with pebbles, sprouts, and even a velvet mite. I set it into a base I made from aged oak. I left a little character in the wood, including some bug trails and knot holes. The mushrooms have stitched caps. All in all, only 4" tall. Just a tiny bit of happiness.
The sun is out today so I'm feeling cheery. Hope you are too.

I love all of your fungi-themed pieces, and the green on this is lovely. Do you pattern them on real mushrooms, or more on fantasy fungi?

ReplyDeleteKaren - this one is a fantasy fungi, inspired by the color of the verdigris agaric and those tiny pinwheel mushrooms, but some that I do are definitely inspired by the real things. Mother Nature has such a lovely sense of shape and color that sometimes my own creative input is just gilding the lily.

ReplyDeleteI thought it was seeing Geninne's work over the years that gave me the turquoise bug! But maybe it is something in the air!!?
I will be painting my studio two variations of turquoise as soon as my children stop needing MY SPACE!! 8*)
The book shelves will be purple...I haven't completely lost my mind! 8*)
