muse is meowling

I'm in a frenzy. My muse, who seems to be much like our errant kitty, has been meowling at my door day and night, after weeks of spotty attendance.
I'm almost done with this piece, part of a series I have planned for my show. My show? Yes, I've committed to having an exhibit of my work in September at the gallery where I work. Gulp. I'll have more to come on that but for now I'm still letting that thought settle in around me. A show.

I even banged out a landscape piece this week for a fiber exhibit at the gallery. It's prettier in person, but still simple as my landscapes tend to go. It's 10" x 10" and will be mounted in a shadowbox.

This burst of inspiration makes me want to quit my job, clear my schedule, and felt all the things!
If any of you know any recent lottery winners out there want to bankroll an enthusiastic but starving artist, you give them my name, okay?

works in progress

A new desk with new works in progress.
I have a workshop in my basement that unfortunately has been prone to flooding, which necessitated my moving all of my supplies upstairs. I end up working at the kitchen table and then moving everything when it's time for dinner. That kind of daily disruption is awfully hard on the creative flow. We have a very small office attached to our bedroom that has, up until now, housed a spare computer and our printer. Looking at the dust on the keyboard I made the executive decision that the computer would go and I would have myself a new place to stitch. It's small, but at least the work can stay laid out until I return to it.
Small victories.

we have a winner!

Thank you to everyone who entered my giveaway, we have a winner.
Julia in Canada, please email me at lilfishstudios@gmail.com with your mailing address so I can get this stone off to you. Congratulations!

To all of you who shared your latent dreams and ambitions, thank you. I felt a real sense of connection knowing that so many of us have things we want to do outside of what our daily routine allows. I hope you all get to read that book, do that knitting, help others, get to the ocean, or whatever else you might be yearning for.

The giveaway winners will be picked tomorrow, Saturday morning, by one of the kiddos.

I haven't stitched a stone since Tuesday given some long work days but you can bet I'll be doing it this weekend.

a shop update and a giveaway, as promised

10 days of stitching all lined up.
10 stones will go in my shop Friday morning at 9am central time.
The proceeds from which, if they should sell, will go right back into my wool supply. :)

Now, how about a little giveaway?
During my challenge there were two days that I was able to make extra stones. I'll give them away, one here and one on my facebook page, so you have two chances to win.

How to enter: This giveaway is now closed
Leave me a comment here on this blog post (and/or on my facebook post) telling me what you would do if you had the time.
My kids will pick a winner, randomly, from both my blog and my facebook page on Saturday morning. That's it! The winner here will win the stitched stone pictured below. I will ship worldwide.
Good luck!

Days 9 and 10... I did it!

Day 9's stone came together last night after dinner and Day 10 this morning before breakfast.
Hooray! Go me!

While my 10-day challenge is now over, I don't expect to put down the needle and thread for quite so long going forward. The exercise forced me to be honest with myself about how I was spending some of my time. Yes, my work life is very busy. Yes, my home life is very busy. But there are times, especially when life gets overwhelming, that I veg in front of a screen. That's okay, and probably necessary, sometimes but other times I know I'll be happier stitching than surfing.
It will be a conscious choice.

Thanks to everyone who cheered me on and who understood how this little act can make a big impact.

I'll have info on the shop update and giveaway tomorrow. Stay tuned!
