I snuck out to the barn last night after dinner to tinker a bit and shake off the stress of the day. I was playing with a piece of spalted birch when it hit me that I'd love a pair of earrings made from it. After a bit of shaping on the band saw and some rough sanding on the belt sander, I was able to cut myself two small discs of wood that I hand-sanded to smoothness. A little tung oil, a little more sanding, then some sterling posts and there they were, earrings.
A nice little treat just for me.
What have you been making for yourselves lately?
Oh, they are so lovely!
ReplyDeleteComplimenti… sono molto belli :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, MamaAngel.
ReplyDeleteGrazie, alberto.
Pretty pretty ! Love the texture. Your works are always impressive.
ReplyDeleteThey are lovely! Having grown up practically inside a woodworking studio, dare I ask about the state of your hands? Cutting and sanding the tiny pieces can do a number.
ReplyDeleteThese turned out so well, a great treat for yourself. I love the grain of that wood.
ReplyDeletei have been making room for my lovely visitors.
ReplyDeleteWhen are you planning on heading north east?
These are so simple and sweet. I love them! I bet you feel great wearing them, too.
ReplyDeleteThese are lovely, lisa. I can't imagine making such small wooden discs. You must be a very patient person. I am almost finished knitting a sweater for myself -- in the middle of a heatwave. Oh well. I'm ready for autumn.
