fluffy

I have decided that today will be a great day, so I am starting it with fluffiness.
The upside of being in charge of the feeding and cleaning duties for our new friends is that I get to hold them for a second while I'm doing it.  Yes, they kept me up with their peep-peep-peeping last night but c'mon, look how cute they are.

I hope your day is fluffy too.
Have a great weekend.

  1. Lola, my five year old girl, would like me to tell you that someday she would like to see your baby chicks. We both think they are the cutest!

  5. OH MAN!!! I want them!! I want them all!! It shouldn't be a big deal to have them running around the back yard while my house is for sale right??

hehehe!! I am laughing sooo hard now, I did not have my glasses on when I seen the first pic. I thought it was a photo of unpopped popcorn kernels.
As I put my glasses on I was enchanted by their over all adorableness. But who knew they could hide as popcorn to the nearly blind eye! LOL!!! So I invite all of you to squint at the first photo and see as I do and have a little laugh.
Well you are what you eat as they say, so are we pop corn? oh so funny!
Before I go put the baby down for a nap I will share a quick story:
When I was 5 years old I went to my grandmother's house, it was a cabin in the woods. She had all kinds of creatures, including chickens. I would often take out a cast iron skillet of corn bread for them to eat. I left the front door open as I took the skillet out to feed the chooks. The momma chooks left their chicks to eat they were all new little ones. I came back into the house and had my lunch with my grandmother. We were mid lunch when we heard a noise outside. Went out to see the hens flustered after finishing their cornbread they went too look for their chicks onto not find them. My grandmother and I looked everywhere for them to no avail. After looking for what felt for ever we came back in for some milk and tea. My grandmother was beside herself thinking about what could have happened to them or what carried off 24 chicks. Then we hear out of no where ...peep peep. By the hearth under a well loved very fluffy feather duster warming their quiet little selves near the fire was the 24 chicks. We had a good laugh then using the handle of the feather duster slowly walked the duster out the door as the chicks tried their best to stay under their adopted mother. After the door was opened and the chicks on the porch we lifted the feather duster and the mother chooks divided the chicks out and went about their business. That is when I learned that chickens cant count and that they also take each others babies even if they never sat on any eggs. ...kiddnapper chooks. LOL!
    Have a sunny fluffy day.

  8. Hanneke - aw! Tell her we hope to have baby ducks in a few weeks too. Those are really cute!

Raeraggs - the yellow guys are a cornish cross, the alert guy is a turkey, and the tiny one in my hand is a guinea keet.

Alesha - probably don't want them wandering the yard while you sell, no. But later...

k - yeah, they do that too.

Rose - that is the best story! I love the image of walking the duster/surrogate mom out the door with the chicks beneath it. Thanks for sharing. :D

Thank you, it is a very fond memory. The reason my grandmother walked them out this way is she said they would be hard to catch since there was 24. She did not want them to be scared and mess on the floor. And being so new she did not want to stress them. They never knew they were missing. Just from one warm feathers cluster to another.
What is your best chick or chicken story?
