a buddy

As luck would have it, I had a little time yesterday after chores and taxes to do a little needling. Before long there was a wee little bunny buddy to befriend that grumpy snow bunny of mine.

A finger puppet buddy, in fact.

The snow is gone and the two of them seem to be sniffing the air for Spring.
Life is so much better with friends.

a quiet morning

Monday morning, my day off. The kids are off to school and the house is quiet and still. Projects hang near the woodstove, drying. Cats and dogs are cuddling. I am click-clacking on the computer, my belly warmed by poached egg, salmon, and asparagus.

It has all the portents of a very fine day.
I'd better get through these taxes and to-do list so I can embrace it.

Happy Monday, all.

checking in on the mushrooms in the tree

I took a few minutes to walk in the woods yesterday and check on the mushrooms I had planted in the tree. I hadn't checked on them since November so I expected a change but you know...not much has happened.

We've had so little snow this winter that it still looks like fall in the woods. Bitter cold we had plenty of, but very little snow.

The only major difference I saw in the mushrooms was that they were leaning more, and the color had drained from the caps, a fact I find interesting since the caps were undyed wool to begin with. The green is still quite vibrant but the undyed grey has faded to almost nothing.

The little rock is still in there too. No one has been digging into this mushroom like they had with the first.

The transition, with yesterday's view at the top, November in the middle, and the October beginning at the bottom.

We'll see what spring brings.

hopping off

A wee bunny hopped off in the mail today, a surprise for a friend.
Made in stolen moments in a very full week.

What are you making time for?

eggs of shimmer and earth

I've been channeling my inner magpie. Building nests and filling them with shiny things. (I know they don't really collect shiny things, but I love the imagery anyway) My wandery mind grew interested in the idea of giving birth to the things one has experienced and I daydreamed about birds who saw glittering snowflakes, the smallest of ferns; who then laid fantastical eggs full of shimmer and earth.

Imagine what our own eggs would look like, imprinted with our memories.

These special nests and stone eggs, my offering to Spring, will be in my shop today along with some new nest brooches and a couple of stone necklaces. I'll be working on putting them in this morning so you'll likely see them pop in there, one by one.

a snow bunny

Why am I sitting in a snowdrift? Don't you know it's cold out here?

Seriously. You bring me out here with that giant basket and I'm going to do what? Fill it with cold?

Come here. Let me explain something to you.

I am not amused. Unless you want a special kind of easter egg this year I suggest you get my tail inside.

That's better. (the end)

The cold is getting to me too, bunny.
This was my first bunny, a practice for a class I hope to teach. There are some things I'll change about him in my next attempt (not the least of which is his attitude, sheesh) but for now he's amusing me.

Have a glorious Wednesday, all. Stay warm. And upbeat. (talkin' to you, bunny)
