You just can't beat Mother Nature

When it comes to texture, Mother nature wins. Hands down. We all know it, but sometimes it can take you off guard, like it did me today. I was walking around our property and went to survey a pine that had fallen. Beneath the bark were the tracks that worms had made while eating away at the piney flesh of the tree. In the rough spot where the tree had hit the ground, the bark had chipped off and it looked like tooled leather or hieroglyphics or something...amazing. The more I looked, the more I saw, and realized that maybe if I took more time in life to look, really look, I could see more. So, I plan to do just that. When the tedium starts to sneak into my day or I'm stressed out and had enough, I vow to take a walk and look for beauty in the rough spots.

That is beautiful. :) I used to live in the middle of the woods and would go for walks and just look around, I loved it. I really miss it now that I'm in the middle of a city.

If I could only figure out a way to use the wood while keeping the lovely wormholes in place.

I've been in the woods so long I miss the city! :) It is beautiful though, in new ways every day.

I can see it being a beautiful candelabra. That way you can bring it inside and enjoy night and day. cut it into a v shape or whatever size and cutting a few votive size holes in it. Oh or I can see it as a trinket box. just hollow out the insides and keep its organic shape for the most part. My brain is going full speed with all the things you can do.

Wonderful ideas, plastic crocodile! It's so beautiful I feel I must have a piece of it. I love the votive holder idea, I just may have to do that.

I used to fill up whole media cards with just photos of textures. We would go on long walks with our cameras and mine would be full of nothing but macro shots of mosses, barks, stones, rust, peeling paint and dirt. I totally love this wormy texture.
