Oh my what a lovely sight! When I was little we had chickens and I remember the excitement of collecting the fresh eggs. And your girl is so fancy with those tufts!!
Thank you so much, ladies. I appreciate that you share my excitement. :D
I love having fresh eggs. There is a definite difference between a fresh egg and a store-bought egg, especially during the summer when our girls are free-ranging. The yolks are bright orange and they are delish. Since our flock is small, I buy eggs too but save our girls' eggs for baking.
Th first egg of the year IS a big deal, and what a very beautiful one you have there...
I still remember my excitement when HennyPenny (my first hen) laid her first egg! I admired it, and then ceremoniously cooked it for breakfast. Then when I called and told my sister, she said "congratulations you're a grandmother!" Ummm I ate the egg, what does that make me....
Beautiful! My mom's Araucana started laying two weeks ago! And her Silver Laced Wyandotte started just last week. Can't wait to have my own chickens!! Congrats, Lisa!
Well, maybe it is too late, but I might be inclined to poke holes in each end, blow the yoke out (into a frying pan, of course!) and display this, your araucana's first egg, in a tiny shadowbox! Here's hoping she lays many many more of those beauties!!!
