On The Hunt

In need of a diversion, I decided to hit the woods with my boys to hunt for mushrooms to photograph. They are expert hunters for their ripe ages of 4 and 3 and can spot the teeniest and wariest of fungus. Momma's rule is that they don't touch the mushrooms with their hands so at the start of our hunts, each picks out a walking stick with which to poke at mushrooms (and inevitably, whack each other with).

I don't know what it is exactly, but I've always been fascinated with mushrooms and find much inspiration in them. The boys and I thought we'd share what we found, and hope you enjoy them as much as we do.

I like how mushrooms are so varied. I'm sure you get alot of them up in the woods. I especially like to look for them in the spring and fall months :)

Thanks Marchi!

R - We do get quite a few up here. Sadly, during the summer the mosquitos and deer flies are so thick they keep me out of our back woods, where I just know oodles and oodles of fantastical mushrooms are growing. Fall is coming though...

Kar - I'm glad you like the pics. Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks for visiting and commenting on my blog Lisa. I love the things that you share on the blog about the area you live in. Whenever we come home to visit we always come down to Brainerd and hang out. We had a blast last year going around town for the ox trot. A blast!

Have a great day!

I love the last photo, with the fern. You have such a great eye. You are such a wonderful mom for teaching your children about the beauty and delicacy of things that are so overlooked.

we've had such a wet summer, my yard is perpetually dotted with sprouting mushrooms -- i spent a nice morning earlier this week photographing many of them :)
