autumn love

Oh how I love autumn.
Just overnight the leaves got their cue to turn and my woods are a subtle wash of golds, rusty oranges, and mossy greens. In a few days they'll brighten and then they'll fade again, leaving the brown oaks with their lichen-encrusted trunks to be the focus.

I love the golden light, the smell, the crinkly leaves, the jeans with flannels, all of it. I don't even mind that fall is the precursor to winter, which seems to be the longest season of all here in Minnesota. Hey, winter is alright, it just overstays its welcome, that's all.

The next few weeks are going to be busy at work with fundraisers, kids events, and upcoming shows, but I aim to make time to do some stitching, do some baking, and get out in the rustling leaves.

In the meantime, I've made the last of this season's acorns, just two sets. They're in the shop today.

Have a glorious day, all.

autumn is for acorns

Because it wouldn't really be autumn around here if I didn't make a couple of acorns.
In my shop.

acorns from an Oak

A little bit of fun. Wool acorns in an...Oak.

A quarter a piece for the curious soul who encounters this gumball machine in The Crossing Arts Gift Shop. They would be pretty easy to overlook, assuming that they were regular gumballs, but I'm hoping some people will give it a closer look.

acorn time is winding down

I've added some new acorns to my shop today.
My acorn-making is winding down for this year.  The oaks are nearly bare and I'm ready to tackle new projects and ideas that have been rattling around in my head.

Onward.

acorn season

There will be a few new sets of wool acorns in the shop today.
'Tis that time of year.

I hope everyone enjoys the long holiday weekend.

very fancy

I've been putting together some little wool acorn ornaments for an event I'm doing later this month, and when I fit the wool bead into its cap, I nip off just a little of it to make it fit snugly.  My youngest  took those nipped off bits and strung them up to wear.

She's very fancy with her new necklace and her "Mary" dress.
(we're reading the Little House on the Prairie series and she thinks this is her calico, and since she has golden curls, she thinks she's Mary.  Though I know she's far more like Laura than Mary)

Enjoy your weekend, everyone!

naturally dyed acorns

A special batch of acorns, one of a kind, made of wool that I've dyed using roots, plants, and bark that I've gathered from my woods.  A labor of love, natural dyeing is.  I love that they come from the earth and are in return gentle on her, and I love the subtlety of the colors and how they blend together so effortlessly.

I had a daydream the other day about a clothing store that carried only undyed clothing.  In jars and baskets around the store were natural materials - leaves, bark, clay, roots... all for the purpose of dyeing the clothes to the customers' wishes.  Maybe such places do exist, I don't know.  They do in a very small degree in the homes of natural-dyers around the world to be sure, but on a large scale, I'm not sure.  Would be fun to explore, wouldn't it?

p.s.
This set of acorns is in my shop, and there will be other colorful additions later this week.

Have a good day, everyone.
