troopers

Minnesota spring weather cancelled my felting class last night with its freezing rain and snow which meant I was left with a batch of strawberries stuffed with goat cheese and drizzled with balsamic glaze, hummus and carrots, and a big bowl of caprese salad.

What to do, what to do?

Why, enjoy of course.

The kids ate the entire plate of strawberries in about 2 minutes and the salad didn't last much longer.
We're troopers like that.  Hitting that problem head on.

I'll be scheduling felting classes which will be open to the public.  I know most of you are far away, but if any local friends would like to take part, I'd be thrilled to have you.  I'll post details as they're available.

It's time for me to head out into the snow.  Have a good day, all.

perfect punctuation

I told myself, before the beginning of winter, that I would take care to punctuate these long snowy days with new experiences, color, and comfort.  Winters are long here and about this time of year I start getting the blahs.  It was perfect timing then that the first batch of sauerkraut that husband made, using the ferementation crock I gave him for christmas, was ready around the same time my brother in law experimented with making corned venison.  I baked up a couple of loaves of rye, and we had ourselves a reuben fest last night.

It was the first time I've ever had a reuben, and washed down with a pint of husband's homemade beer, I must say it was delicious.

Just what I needed.  It made waking up to below-zero temperatures a little more tolerable this morning.

How do you manage cabin fever, the blahs, the greys?  Are you counting the days until spring?

playing with food

This was last night's dessert, inspired by a cute pair of fruit palm trees I saw on Pinterest (I finally succumbed to the power of the Pinterest...my free time will never be the same again).

My kids love fruit so I didn't need to do any convincing to get them to tear into this.  I think it was gone in about 9 seconds.

Sometimes it is okay to play with your food.
