shop update today

I'll be putting a few new pieces in my shop today at 2:00 central time.

There will be a few stone necklaces and a few stones available.  I'll begin listing them later this morning but they won't go "live" until 2:00pm.

There is another stone on my table that isn't pictured here that may get listed later this evening, if I finish it up.

If you're interested, my shop is HERE

Thanks so much everyone!  I hope you have a sunny day. (the clouds have found us here and I'm wishing for sunshine)

4 years and 30 seconds

I finished this piece today.  Only took me four years and 30 seconds.

It has been over four years since I carved this wood pendant from a piece of driftwood.  It has sat in my jewelry box ever since.

Last week when I was in town I stopped to see my friend Rhonda, (who owns the coolest bead shop where ancient artifacts share space with nuggets of turquoise, Fordite, dinosaur poop, and lots and lots of beads...do check it out if you're ever in the Brainerd area - The Bead Box), and finally picked up a pinch bail for my pendant.  It took me all of 30 seconds to put it together after that.

It goes that way sometimes, doesn't it?  It isn't always easy to find make the time to do for ourselves, but I think it's always worth it.

Will you find a little time today?

new items in the shop today

I have a few new pieces that I've added to my shop this morning.

This needlefelted wool scene has been fitted into a piece of oak from my woods.  I love the dark band in the grain of the wood.

For grins, here's an extreme close up.

The actual scene is only 1 1/4" across.

There is also this peaceful meadow scene surrounded by a pretty piece of chokecherry wood.

A small moss garden necklace, strung on leather cord.

This is also fitted into a piece of chokecherry.  I love the grain in this piece.

There will also be a limited number of custom-made embroidered stones and perhaps a completed stone or two if the weather cooperates and gives me light to photograph by.  After yesterday's gorrrgeous weather, I am not complaining about a little rain today.

If you'd like, please stop by my shop

Sorry about the short notice, I normally like to announce shop updates beforehand, but today is one of those unplanned kind of days.

Have a great day, everyone.

lichen gardens and prehistoric fish

I snuck a little bit of time yesterday afternoon, in between taking in a discussion about raptors at the arboretum and popcorn and movie time in the basement, to do a little work with my fingers.

The other day I had cut a little nugget of that chokecherry wood, sanded it smooth, then rubbed it with beeswax and tung oil, to be ready to become a necklace.  I did a little sewing, a lichen-inspired garden of sorts, on a small bit of wool and fit it inside the wood and strung it up on leather.

I cut this piece of wood so I could keep this little inclusion on the side.  It looks like a prehistoric fish to me, which I totally dig. (naturally)

I'll be putting this little garden in my shop on Wed. of this coming week, along with just a few other pieces I've been working on.  More to come.

Have a good and restful Sunday, everyone.

Sunday

Just a quiet image of the happiness that was in my inbox this morning.
Thank you, dear friend, for sharing it.

A happy Sunday to you all.

Wearable Vessel Necklaces and a shop update

I've been hinting at a project I've been working on for quite a while and I'm finally ready to show you what I've been doing out at the band saw. (besides acquiring band-aids on my fingers)

This is an idea that had been in my sketchbook for quite a while.  It was inspired by my children who love to bring me impossibly tiny flowers when we're out walking.  I wanted to be able to honor these sweet offerings and I imagined them being carried as we went on our adventures, so I decided to make wearable vases.

Each wood piece has been cut, carved, and sanded (hours of sanding!) and then fitted with a tiny glass vial.  A few drops of water or some damp floral foam makes it a happy place for freshly-plucked green things but I think it will serve equally well for holding tiny feathers, twigs, and leaves or maybe an air plant or something.  They hang from an adjustable leather cord in dark brown.

I've put a few of these in my new big cartel shop (see the "shop" tab at the top of the blog) at an introductory price. (blog readers get first dibs, yay!)  They, along with some other new work, will be in that shop until Monday at which point they will move over to my Etsy shop, at regular price.   If you're so inclined, I'd love it if you'd pop in and have a look.

Some other goodies in the new shop today.

Wool moss brooches

Wool and oak moss brooch

Sporophytes and walnut necklace

I made myself a vase necklace too out of a spectacular piece of walnut that I gathered with my dad in Illinois.  I'll show pics soon.  Now where is spring?  I need to gather flowers! (under our 12 new inches of snow I presume)

Have a great weekend, everybody.
