I know this is supposed to be a wordless Wednesday post but I had to share my sense of abundance, verbally. I went on a short walk in our woods the other day and within 5 minutes had seen a dozen different mushrooms. By the end of my walk I had taken over a hundred photos of mushrooms. The ones you see here are a fraction of what I saw, and I'm imagining that I saw only a fraction of what is out there. Aren't they amazing?

when living around such amazing specimens of fungi, you can not but be inspired by them, one way or another !!!
Your photos are amazing, and so are the fungi themselves of course ! I wish I could walk around in your woods with you & see them "for real". Until that day, I'll have to stick with your wonderful photos !! Thanks for taking them & for sharing them here with us !

Holy schomoly, girl! I have to admit (as a non-mushroom person) these are pretty incredible. Hard to imagine that you can find so many different ones in your backwoods. We're still surrounded by corn and while there may be an occasional smut outbreak here and there, nothing cool like this :: lynn
Okay, that does it! THIS Saturday I am going to hike the trails at our local Audubon to search for some of these gorgeous mushrooms! Love the little "blueberry" ones! Thanks for sharing! Now I've got to check to see where you live - I've never seen the likes of these in my little corner of the world!

on my mushroom explorations at my cabin i kept coming across ones that look like your second to last photo- the mushroom with rough spots on it...any idea?

This is a crazy year for sure for the mushrooms! I've never seen so many different kinds everywhere. Today I was out driving and noticed even more than I had last week --- if I get a chance I'll be out again with my camera tomorrow! They're just so fascinating.
Sonia - well, when you do come to visit you'll have to plan a trip in the fall so we can mushroom hunt together. That sounds wonderful, doesn't it?
Centi - it does have a sort of underwater look about it, doesn't it? Cool observation.

kristin - I believe those are scaly pholiota. Were yours attached to wood, either to a tree or root? That might be them. They're an interesting mushroom. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pholiota_squarrosa
Tara - that first one reminds me of the inside of a tomato. The shape anyway. :D
