When I took the photo for yesterday's Wordless Wednesday post I had to get down low to get the shot I wanted. I snapped a few pics and sat back in the grass for a minute. The weather was perfect, sunny with a breeze, the kind of weather that conjures up memories of apple-picking. Jeans and t-shirt weather. My favorite weather. Autumn weather.
I took a moment to look around me and just take in my surroundings from where I sat. There are no fancy pictures here, just a snapshot of my life at that moment. It made me realize that I'd like to do this more often, sit in a new spot and just observe life just as it is.
My dog decided to join me too. Though she won't be snapping photos...her photography skills are slightly lacking. (what with that embarrassing no-opposable-thumb thing and all) She did roll around on her back for a bit, wiggling this way and that, snorting like a piglet before she collapsed on her side feeling rather satisfied with herself.
Of course the chickens had to come and have a look and wonder why The Feeder was sitting on the ground. Actually, I'm sure they didn't care why I was sitting on the ground, they were just scoping for food.
A load of laundry was on the line, the third that day, drying in the sunshine while a Tonka truck sat idle.
I reached back to grab my lens cap off the stump behind me and noticed it was delightfully warty with Wolf's Milk Slime and had an accompanying mushroom. (I think they follow me sometimes....and I love it)
That was my adventure. Nothing fancy, just a few minutes sitting in the grass in between the busy-ness of life.
(note: now, had you observed me writing up this blog post later you would have seen me surrounded by a 4 year old "playing" his guitar for me and correcting me on the lyrics for Ring of Fire, me stopping to change a toxic diaper, and then the baby turning off the computer on me right as my cursor was poised over "publish".)

I hope you get some time to look around you today and observe the interesting, odd, and mundane, around you. I'd love to hear what you've observed so if you get a moment, leave me a comment and share your world with me, won't you?

oh I love that post, my friend. I felt like I was sitting next to you in the sun, looking at trees, mushroom, laundry, the doggie & the chicks.
I have been outside today, more than once or twice (school, babe), but what I've done most of the day today is dyeing. Mordanting, rincing, cleaning, dyeing, etc, so what I have observed today is the amazing show of Nature who gave me some amazing colors today.
xoxoxo
PS : thanks for sharing this slice of life, my friend !
Sounds like you had a wonderful day! Just how I like days to be... Simple. :)
Lisa, thank you for sharing your beautiful, peaceful moment (and I'm sure it was just a moment, too!). My husband and I were asking our 4-year-old how the "Down, Down" song from school goes, and he started singing, "We go down, down, down, the Ring of Fire." Love our little Johnny Cashes. Happy Autumn!
One of my favorite times of year also -enjoy your posts and look forward to them. I love it when people comment on mine so wanted you to know yours was appreciated too.
great little peak into the wonders of everyday things. the sun is shining here today and after i am free from work i hope to escape out into it for a bit. a peaceful wander in the woods might be in order, or maybe like you, just a poke around the yard. : )
This is such a nice post, Lisa. I love those moments when you slow down and notice and breathe and take things in. I don't have many of those, but I had one yesterday. It was such a beautiful day, the sun was out, it was warm and I was riding my bike and I just saw everything and reveled in it. I think we should all try to do that at least once a day.
very very close encounter with a magical swan today
I love your mundane. Especially your washing line. Nothing like a toxic diaper to slam you right back into reality!
(Yesterday now) I observed a traffic jam on one of Europe's busiest motorways, unfortunately, I was in it. But it's okay, I eventually ended my journey seing the smiling faces of friends I've missed :)
Those toxic diapers always abound. The toddler sent me to the kitchen for a juice refill the other day just so he could push the magic off button on the laptop. Sneak attack.
Jeans and t-shirt Autumn weather is the best, life is good. Gorgeous hens too!
what a beautiful thing to do...i have to remind myself all the time to stop and take in my surroundings. tho' it's been raining all weekend, so i haven't exactly sat out in the hard much. but i did hurriedly stop the car the other day to pull over and photograph mushrooms. as one does. :-) it's the season!
Is that a weimerana?
