I have some of my buttons sorted but I have about 50 pounds that I haven't yet sorted. In fact, they've been sitting in my workspace for about 2 years now sooooo it's time for them to go. Since I know there are other button-lovers out there, I thought I'd start my de-stash with a giveaway. Yay!
I'm starting with a pound bag o' buttons. If you'd like to dig through some unsorted old buttons for yourself, then leave me a comment on this post and maybe you'll get one for yourself!
I'll pick a winner on Friday Jan. 28 so please be sure I have some way to contact you. I'll ship worldwide, so come on fellow button lovers, let's see what treasures you'll get!
I'll pick a winner on Friday Jan. 28 so please be sure I have some way to contact you. I'll ship worldwide, so come on fellow button lovers, let's see what treasures you'll get!
Tomorrow I will start adding buttons to my (now empty) destash shop - lilfishextras - so if you're interested, come have a look. I'll be adding a bunch of these unsorted bags o' buttons to the shop as well as a few more, but if you're looking for a certain kind of vintage button, just ask and I might have it for you.
Happy Monday everyone!

Oh, the possibilities! I would love to win :)

My favorite memories as a kid was getting to sort thru my Gran's button jar, my Mom's too. I've been trying to build my own so my kids can sort and play too.

I LOVE old buttons! That's quite the collection. Keep warm today.
I was just looking through my meager button stash the other day and was wondering where I might lay my hands on some more...This would be the perfect solution! Nothing I liked better as a child than sorting through my Mom's button box.
LOVE buttons! i recently made some wreathes out of them - a vintage-y wreath would be gorgeous!
i have a 11 year old.. very active.. but put tons of buttons in front of him.. he is in his glory checking each one out like they are gold.. love to win this

Ooohh. What a great giveaway! I love buttons. I keep buying jars, but I never really find treasure in them. Maybe cause I'm in the city. Who knows. You'd think a town with as many old mills as this one has would have a great supply of old buttons etc. Not so much.
Oh, my!! I absolutely love antiques and anything vintage and old! Living in Germany I feel very lucky to be able to go to all the European Flea Markets in search of antique treasures waiting to be found. I have never thought of collecting vintage buttons, but just looking at all the pictures of your vintage button collection makes me super excited just thinking of what treasures might be hiding there! :)
Oh, what a lovely idea, Lisa! I just tried to leave a comment, but got so excited I forgot to press the right button. So, trying again... Thanks!
Helo from fellow button fan from Poland :) It would be very nice to go through the new pile of buttons especially the ones that are from across the ocean.
Woohoo Buttons! I'll be checking out the shop!
What fun! I love the picture of your bowls of buttons.
Sounds like just what I need!

Hello from a regular lurker! You certainly know how to de-lurk me!!
I can't get enough of buttons - always stopping to pick up any strays that I see anywhere! I also keep one in my coat pocket to fiddle with while out and about - especially useful while standing in a queue!!
I would love to win some buttons! I need to start a stash (as I have very few), since I'm getting ready to knit more and more things that require buttons!
Thank you for this giveaway!
My button stash is in serious need of help! I donated some to an author on a book of buttons, and have not had time to replace them! Would love to use this prize to do just that!
Lisa we collect buttons in the same way and some of my favourite pieces are the bits that aren't even buttons! So many funny and cute things I've found at the bottom of tins. As much as I would LOVE a pound of your gorgeous stash (the best stash I've ever seen), I would bow out of this one because there are most likely lots of people who need them more than I do and winning would just be glutenous of me :)
You are so generous!!!
Criminey!!! That is some kind of button stash!! You win handsdown. I would love to be in for a chance to win some. I lurve vintage buttons
Ooooohh! I LOVE buttons! (So does my five-year-old daughter!) I hope I win!!
Better than christmas....Vintage buttons means happiness.
Many years ago, my husband took me to a vintage button shop on my birthday. Love this.
Just found your blog (through the Fa La La La Felt book) and LOVE it! It's like a little slice of home for me, a MN native.
I must say, too,...that's a load of buttons ya got there! I have my fingers crossed to receive some.

Well, you know I can't resist a button giveaway!
Hey Lisa, Thanks for the giving! Your site is awesome, I look forward to each day just seeing what you have to share with us. vickiewhalen2000@gmail.com
As a kid I loved playing with my Mom's tins and jars of buttons. I don't have many of my own and would love some for craft projects, now that I'm back to doing those kinds of things.
Buttons are memory joggers! Sorting through piles of buttons gives no end of pleasure, and now I know I'm not alone in this!! Several years ago in a magazine I saw a photo of what I'll call a button swag. It was a length of wire with MOP buttons twisted on, spaced maybe 4 or 5 inches apart, and only about a yard or so long, resting between the articles on a nightstand. I found some fine copper wire and made some for myself. There's one on a windowsill, one curled over the top of a hanging chamber pot, one from a nail on the half-log mantel...I'm sure you get the picture!
Your blog gives me as much pleasure, if not more, than a whole tub full of buttons!! Thank you so very, very much for sharing!
Is there anything more exciting than a mystery bag of crafty goodness - especially if it's mystery buttony crafty goodness? Thanks for the opportunity to win this Lisa.
All the best - Hazel

OMG -- I LOVE buttons! I would love to win your button giveaway--thanks for the opportunity!
My Auntie had a tin of buttons when I was a child. When I visited her, I would sit with them on my lap and simply run my fingers through them.
I loved the colours, yes mostly dark back then, but even so the odd pink or shiny jet, little duck shapes, glass or mother of pearl........they were just such a simple delight to me.
Guess theres many of us that have never lost that simple pleasure, so yes please, pop my name in the draw 'hat'!
And thankyou for the opportunity!
Lyn
I, too, have a button fetish - LOVE THEM! Thank you for sharing with us.
i can never pass up on buttons!! what a treasure trove you have there!
thanks for sharing.
What an amazing collection you have! I love to use that one of a kind old button on my project too - makes it unique I think.
How can you NOT sort through them even while bagging them up? It wouldn't happen if it were up to me. I would start out bagging and get lost for the rest of the week amid the buttons. My bladder would be angry with me, too!
Just over a year ago I made my mother a wall quilt of painted and sanded muslin that was embellished with vintage buttons. I had to buy a package of VINTAGE buttons from a local craft shop because I didn't have a stash of my own - my mother still has the family button stash.
This quilt was a first for me as was the button embellishing. I loved the whole process and must say I am very please with the outcome. The rest of the package of vintage buttons has become the beginning of my personal stash. Adding to it has been an absorbing past time. I can see why you have so many!
Thank you, Lisa, for adding my name to the draw for this pound of treasure!
ooooh, yes please! i find sorting things a bit like knitting ... very relaxing. i've been having to rely on store bought buttons recently which is just a little bit sad :(
Best giveaway ever. I do tons of button crafts with my nieces and nephews.
What a cool giveaway. When I was little digging through my grandmothers metal button boxes was one of the neatest things to do. When they became my mothers and then to me. I still like to go through them. I enjoy bring back the memories of which out fit they came from.
I love vintage buttons! My mother-in-law has a beautiful collection of rare buttons framed in her kitchen. I get lost in daydreams every time I look at it. I think I should make my own.
Just this morning I was thinking that one of the reasons I dream of going to America is because I'd love to go thrifting over there. You have such a wonderful collection, one could probably spend days and days sorting through it all. I would be as happy as a piglet in a mud pool to win this treat :)
What a fun prize! I would love to have a pound of buttons to sort through. I love how yours look there in their bowls.
Ohh wow!! Thats like a treasure! I love buttons and i'm a bit jealous of your collection!! :)
I would love to win...
I love buttons!!! ...and i love this blog :]
A whole POUND of buttons!?!?!? Please!!! Count me in!!!
Ohohohoh! I want some buttons! I am totally jealous of your stash!!!!
btw...my email address is gracedlee AT gmail DOT com
thanks!
As much as I love buttons - my 39 year old daughter is the one I'm hoping to get these buttons for. She had an unusually close relationship with her Grandma N - my hubby's dear mother. They loved each other from the moment they met and cherished every moment they spent with each other. Grandma N had an old Maple Buffett where she kept a large jar of buttons she had collected most of her life. My daughter loved getting that big jar out and culling through all the different buttons. Grandma N had to go into an assisted living facility and after that a nursing home. My daughter begged for her Grandma N's buffet but alas, the big jar of buttons were gone. No one in my hubby's family seemed to recall what had happened to them. She still talks of them after all these years. I started collecting buttons but it has been a very slow process and I don't always think of it. This would be a wonderful gift for my special daughter but if not - it has reminded me again that I need to "make the time" to search for some buttons for my big jar I've been trying to fill (not even 1/4th full). What a wonderful give-away
Ohhhh! Pick Me...Pick Me.... :0)
How Fun!!! I have such great memories of pick'n , digg'n and exploring thru my Mum's button tin as a little girl. And I still Love Buttons!! Thanks for the give-away Lisa!
Beautiful collection. What a wonderful idea to give some away.
It's such a thrill to go through old buttons and think of crafty things to do with them.
Wow what a wonderful collection u have!
I almost fainted with delight at the sight of your button collection and the possibility of winning some!
Ok I would love some buttons how fun is that! Just a question--Do you have any buttons that Paul Bunyan might have used! (yes I remember Paul Bunyan land--I just loved how he knew my name!!) PS I spent every summer on Mille Lacs lake! Howdy neighbor although now I am way out west in Montana!
I have a very treasured tin full of buttons that belonged to my grandma, then my mother and now me... I remember as a young child sitting on grandma's front room floor sifting through the buttons, a very treasured memory :)... I would love to give some new treasured buttons a loving home...
Okay, you have 50 pounds of unsorted buttons? Wow, you DO love vintage buttons! Count me in on the giveaway! I need it like I need a hole in the head, but...
One more button lover here! And so many of us loved sorting through button tins as children - it was always a treasure hunt and a springboard for spinning daydreams. Great giveaway! Thanks!

I would love some of your buttons! I like to use them in the most unconventional ways--most notably in lieu of ribbons and bows on wrapped gifts. I also like to sew them on my and my children's hats.

A button a day keeps... err..boredom away?! Not exacly, but true nevertheless.
Button sorting is so therapeutic. I remember whenever I needed soothing as a child my mum would set me to sorting her button collection.
What a lovely giveaway. You are very generous!
OH, what a paradise of buttons. I love buttons too, so I started for a few months with creating my own buttons with polymer clay.

Hurray for buttons! You can never have enough!
I have never seen so many buttons. I have one biggish jar of colors and a small jar of whites/cremes. Your bowls of buttons look like treats~~~
Oohh, I adore buttons... yours are organized so nicely! Mine are all over the place. I really should sort by colour one of these days :)
Count me in! I love using them on special projects too :)
Count me in! I just love old buttons, I have both my Grandmother's button boxes and still use one of them today.I also have jars of their buttons displayed up in the upstair hall by the guest bedroom and my stitching studio.I have several framed buttons too.
Ohhh. I have a newly discovered LOVE of buttons ~ what a lot of beauties you have :)
Your passion for buttons is so heartwarming! My grandparents collected whimsical mismatched button sets in a decorative sunflower seed "halvah" tin box. From time to time I would run through their stash of buttons to pick some for my knit and crochet projects. Or to string them in colorful necklaces. When I left my homeland to come to the States, I took my favorite button from the stash with me. I carry it with me everywhere I go, like a charm. I'm still looking for the perfect project for it.
One of my favorite childhood memories is spending hours looking at my mom's button collection, dreaming about what mine might look like when I was an adult. Buttons are so fabulous!
(clickinggirl (at) gmail (dot) com
I would soooo love to win one of those! I am sitting with fingers crossed till friday :D

There's just something so FUN about poking through a bunch of buttons!
Oh me oh my...I love me some vintage buttons...be still my beating heart.
I tried to comment yesterday, but it seems it didn't work! Too bad, since the word verification was "buton". it seemed like a sign that a super fun bag of buttons might be in my future! I also commented that I so love the mossy heart brooch, which is now featured in today's post! I wonder if you have another mossy brooch among the ones you're working on?? I hope so!
I love buttons!
That is some impressive collection! Thanks for the chance to win.

Where I live, we have no thrift stores or garage sales so no vintage buttons for me so far : (...I want to win that bag so much! Thanks for the opportunity..
I inherited my mother's button box (tin)which I treasure and have always loved sorting through it. My favorite buttons are three little red Scottie dogs which I need to festoon something with. Sometimes you just need that perfect button to make things right!

Aren't buttons the best?
I was at a company event last week where they were playing bingo and using buttons for markers. It was all I could do not to steal some!
WOW I can't believe that you are parting with all of those fabulous vintage buttons!!! If I were you I would have gone through and picked out the good ones first :) I'd love to win a bag. I make my own buttons and make statement button jewellery.

I have a button colletion (small one comparatively to yours) that comes from my grandmother's brother. they are real treasures to me...I feel very curious about your button bag.....

I like buttons. alot. in fact, I have an awful lot of them already - and like you I have a small mountain that I have not even got around to sorting yet - so, I really really don't need any more buttons - but then... when did 'need' ever come into it!

Hi! Thank´s for the opportunity. I love buttons of all kinds, and I think these are adorable. I have a small collection, and I add buttons to all my projects (I´m studying fashion design). It is sad that here there are very few shops where they sell them so I do not find much variety.
I would love to get them , from the moment I saw them many projects came to my mind.
:)
buttons!buttons!I love buttons! here's wishing for some...
LOL I love buttons. I saw your photo and gushed to my fiance that there was this photo of such delicious, wonderful, yummy goodness.
He said (after he saw it): I love you honey, but you're demented.
lol! Buttons are so awesome.
I used to sort my Grandma's buttons. The ones with the "diamonds" were my favorite!
What a great way to trim down your button collection and make one of us (your blog readers) very happy! :D

That photo of your buttons is so amazing, and it brings to mind many afternoons spent in my grandmother's basement marveling at her buttons. I see you already have plenty of offers to take a few pounds off your hands, but I still have to have my chance at winning a few days of button sorting joy. Thanks for the giveaway and the reminder of those precious days spent with my grandmother.
Holy mountain of entries! I have no hope of winning, and little hope that this comment will ever even get read! But I have to say that sorting through the button box is a generations-old tradition in my family. My kids will do CHORES for the hope of getting a chance to sift through my pirates' booty of treasures! Of course, it is a dwindling loot, as I tap into it far more often than I replenish it... Maybe I'll win since it's my birthday on the 27th! ((0:Holy mountain of entries! I have no hope of winning, and little hope that this comment will ever even get read!
