Shared Creativity

I spent a little time yesterday working on a project for me.  The baby girl was down for a nap (insert angel-singing noises here) so the intrepid 4 year old and I shared the table for a little creative time.

I am working on making wool stones out of wool sweater and roving.  I need several hundred stones for what I plan to do so it should put at least a small dent in my wool stash.  It should also take me quite a long time.  My goal is to finish it before the end of the year.

A was refining his family portraits in orange.  The large orange blob is a potato on our heads, in case you're wondering.  I thought for a moment that daddy had a really awesome hairdo, but nope, potato.

Here's wishing you some good creative time this week too.

Oh, wow, you're needle felting the stones! Looking at the first picture I thought you felted the wool onto some stones. Good luck, sounds like an ambitious project. Hope you'll share some more of it soon :)

Keri - oh my goodness, don't be freaked out, they're the easiest things ever! I'll give you tips if you'd like, but seriously just try them and you'll see...

Mona - Thanks! It is ambitious so I'm trying to work on it now while I'm feeling ambitious. Hopefully I'll be able to share more soon.

Sandi - thanks so much!

Greetje - he is definitely my creative one. He has an imagination that boggles my mind. And he loves your art too. :D

That sounds like an ultra big project and your stones are looking amazing. I've been working on a tiny needle felting project myself today, just playing.

I love the orange drawing. A family of "potato heads" sweet !

Do I see . . . . halos? Daddy's happy about his potato and someone else is happy about their halo but two other are a little more subdued. Anxious to see where this goes.

I love that stage in development when kids draw body-less people! Isn't it weird that all of us do that at one point? Who needs a body, anyway, when you have a giant potato?

Lisa, I am intrigued by the felt stones. Initially, I thought you were wet felting around stones but after reading the comments and looking more closely, it seems you might be making the stones from felt. Either way, they are very pretty. And I like the giant potato.:)

Wow, those felt stones are amazing! I've never felted anything unless you count the cardigan I put through a hot wash by accident. :)
The family portrait is adorable.

Oooh, I can't wait to see what you're working toward with these stones! They're beautiful, of course.

wow, i'm excited to see how this project turns out - so many amazing stones you have already made! also, that is one big potato. :)

joanie - can't wait to see!

Lynn- perhaps we're jealous of the potato.

scrapiana - my 5 year old always draws me with an enormous butt bump. If I had to choose between no body and big butt...no body. :D

Tara - I do felt around stones, but this time they're all wool. The centers are thick felted sweater wool and I'm felting over them just like I would a stone.

ai - felting is so much fun, and if you've shrunk a cardigan, well there you go...you're half-way there.

Thanks Britt!

K - it is a big potato. Perhaps to feed us all?

The drawing looks ready for framing ;)

It's nice to see a different approach to felted stones... I never thought of needlefelting them... They look pretty tho ;)

julochka said...

do you put a real stone inside the stones?

i love the orange family...sabin did very similar ones at that age, only they had flowers for heads. but the same legs attached directly to the heads. wouldn't it be cool if we really were built like that?

Thanks everybody! He was pretty proud of his potato head family. He tells me that he drew the potato on our heads so that I could lift it and show everyone how strong I am. :)

Lynda and Julie - these stones are made entirely of wool. I've taken a piece of thick felted wool sweater and felted wool roving to it. I needle the roving on a little first then wet-felt it to pull it all together. If you've felted a real stone, this is the same approach but with a wool interior.
