What's On The Workbench Today

I finished up some wool stones over the weekend, a project that I really enjoy.  These were a request from a customer of mine and something that I haven't carried in my shop in a while.  Since I had so much fun making them I decided to do a few extra and they'll be in the shop later this week.  These are made with real stones in the middle and I like them as natural decorations scattered around the house and as photo props.  My kids really like hauling these around too and stacking them up.  I think there's something about the soft wool and the heft of the stone, it makes a nice combination.

I'm also working on few more birch brooches today.  I cut discs from downed branches, shape and sand them, and then apply a thin layer of birch bark like a veneer on top.  I then drill holes and embroider designs on them.  I finish the sides and back by rubbing it with local beeswax.  They're simple and natural which appeals to me.

Since I had the tools out I put together some small birch tags for my packaging too.

And yes, I'm making that mess on my kitchen table, much to my husband's dismay.  I know.  I know.

What are you working on today?

intarsia...knitting with bobbins...untangling tangles...doing something I have no clue how to do...but that's what it's all about isn't it?

Love the stones and they would feel great with the weight inside. Working on needle felted owls today in shades of cream, brown and gray.

Marilyn - now you've given me something new to look up. I know of intarsia in terms of woodworking but not with thread.

Aw, thanks Betz! I'm so glad he liked it. :D

RedTwig - oooh owls, that sounds like a fun project.

Dawn - it is fun but can be tough on the wrists. I hope yours are feeling better soon.

sharon - thank you so much!

Z - you're too sweet, my friend.

Life - thanks!

Those brooches are such a cool idea and I love the little tags you make. I have mine hanging from my favorite lamp.

Just heading upstairs to work on my scrapbook for a trip I took in 2009 (I know, I know!) Hopefully it will be finished to day.

Love the stones, they are a gorgeous colour.

Oooooh, I love the colours and the textures all so much. Working on..... hmmm, science homework with T a hat hair decoration with G and finding homes for piles of crap all over the place because I'm "reorganizing."
Maybe something fun tomorrow.
And hopefully I'll reward myself with your yummy soft pretzels at the weekend :)

Those birch buttons and tags are such a clever idea! And beautifully executed. But will there be sawdust in Darling Husband's next batch of cinnamon rolls...? ;)

I painted (what else ;o) and blogged about is. About trees. HOw important they are to mankind.

(and I made a mess of myself and one of my daughters, in the mud, outside in the sun! Feels like spring!)
