Wearable Vessel Necklaces and a shop update

I've been hinting at a project I've been working on for quite a while and I'm finally ready to show you what I've been doing out at the band saw. (besides acquiring band-aids on my fingers)

This is an idea that had been in my sketchbook for quite a while.  It was inspired by my children who love to bring me impossibly tiny flowers when we're out walking.  I wanted to be able to honor these sweet offerings and I imagined them being carried as we went on our adventures, so I decided to make wearable vases.

Each wood piece has been cut, carved, and sanded (hours of sanding!) and then fitted with a tiny glass vial.  A few drops of water or some damp floral foam makes it a happy place for freshly-plucked green things but I think it will serve equally well for holding tiny feathers, twigs, and leaves or maybe an air plant or something.  They hang from an adjustable leather cord in dark brown.

I've put a few of these in my new big cartel shop (see the "shop" tab at the top of the blog) at an introductory price. (blog readers get first dibs, yay!)  They, along with some other new work, will be in that shop until Monday at which point they will move over to my Etsy shop, at regular price.   If you're so inclined, I'd love it if you'd pop in and have a look.

Some other goodies in the new shop today.

Wool moss brooches

Wool and oak moss brooch

Sporophytes and walnut necklace

I made myself a vase necklace too out of a spectacular piece of walnut that I gathered with my dad in Illinois.  I'll show pics soon.  Now where is spring?  I need to gather flowers! (under our 12 new inches of snow I presume)

Have a great weekend, everybody.

SO cool! I love the idea of a flower vase necklace. Aren't sketch books the most wonderful dreaming tools?

These are amazing! Beautiful! Can I gush some more? I love those wool brooches too. I think you may be singly responsible for turning me into a brooch wearer.

I see a boo-boo bandage on your finger. Hope it's nothing too serious.

Have a beautiful weekend!

You are TOO cool! I love those.
All that sanding! As someone who spent years sanding (carpenter), I know how much work that is.
And a new shop to boot!

super cute! I too have been eyeing Big Cartel for new change of pace. Let me know how it goes for you :) I have some friends over there who seem to do pretty well and like it. They say it's peaceful and nice to not worry about fees overly much.

I love that idea of a wearable vessel! Perfect when you have small children around but great if you don't have them too because it's so lovely and grown-up (in a good way). Great work!

You are a genius, Lisa, a fabulous genius and a poet at the same time. Your art requires so many different skills ! It is an everyday celebration of Nature and of the treasures of the forest. You make our world even more beautiful ! Your very unique creations always fill me with wonder and then I smile and think of them all the day ... I guess I also dream of them !!!

Thank you so so so so much for mine :))) I cherish him and try to make him happy as much as I can. These past days, he wanted daisies, only daisies, morning, midday and afternoon ! He is admired by all the little (and older) eyes he meets, all sparkling eyes ! I live in an appartment, but I can tell now that I have a garden :)

Plesag give a healing kiss from me to your injured fingers. They are heroes, yes, heroes !!! :D

Lisa, this is such a beautifully elegant and functional idea, perfectly executed. You have such a love for the materials you use, and it shows in the finished pieces. You are amazing in all you do, and I don't know how you pulled this off along with donating to Crafting for Courage along with that other job, you know, the mothering one that no one thinks is a job, etc.! Hope you are enjoying some relaxing time this weekend. And I LOVED hearing your voice on the radio show you linked to earlier in the week. Just think of all the accents mixing happily together when all of us meet. Some day, right?
